Two rock families, two logics
Taza stone is sedimentary limestone: it forms from sediment deposited in marine or lacustrine environments. Marble is metamorphic rock formed by recrystallisation of limestone under heat and pressure. This explains their behaviour: marble offers deep polish and spectacular veining; Taza stone stays more matte and more tolerant of UV and outdoor humidity.
On the same project, it is common to combine both: Taza stone on façade and terrace, local or imported marble in the hall, bathroom or worktop.
Resistance and environment
In Morocco, sunshine, thermal swings and winter rain impose real constraints. In exposed outdoor areas, Taza stone — especially bush-hammered or sandblasted — is generally safer than polished marble, which can weather or become slippery.
In air-conditioned or semi-protected interiors, local marble (Taza, Khénifra, Azilal) or imported (Carrara, Emperador, travertine) brings prestige and refinement. For bathrooms, plan for maintenance: some light marbles mark more easily with hard water or cosmetics.
- Exposed exterior → Taza stone first
- Hall, living room, bathroom → marble
- Pool → slip-resistant Taza stone, not polished marble
- Interior staircase → marble or stone depending on traffic
Aesthetics and architectural style
Taza stone works with contemporary and traditional Moroccan architecture: pisé walls, cubic volumes, villas in Rabat-Souissi or the Corniche. Marble, with its graphic veining, suits luxurious interiors, five-star hotels and reception spaces.
UNIVMAR offers both families in a catalogue of 80+ references — local marble, imported marble, granite and natural stone — to harmonise your project without multiple suppliers.
Budget and quotes
Price per m² depends on finish, thickness, cutting complexity and volume — not just the material name. Generally, Taza stone in façade finish stays competitive for large areas; rare imported marble will be priced higher.
